NataisanhomagetoLisboa.Themesmerizingcoloredtiles,thesoundofthesea,thesmelloffreshcoffeeinthemorning,andofcourse,thefirstbiteofaflakynata.AfterlivinginNewYorkCityfor4years,thesewereallthingsthatourfounder,Lisboanative,feltdeep“saudade”for.“Saudade”isconsideredthemostbeautifulwordofthePortugueselanguage-afeelingofdesire,longing,melancholy.
Nataisbornfromthatexactfeeling.WhilehemissedtheslowLisboamoments,hefeltinspiredbythecity’senergyandfeltaneedtobringapieceofhometothebigapple.HespentthreemonthsinPortugaldevelopingourrecipe,learningfromsomeofthecountry’smostrenownedbakers.Afterayearofhardwork,filledwithupsanddowns,Nata’sfirstlocationfinallyopensrightwhereourfounder’sNewYorkjourneybegan—inthelivelysurroundingsofWashingtonSquarePark,at11WaverlyPlace.
